About Joe

I am an alum of Citrus College and a Claremont resident for over 35 years. I have made a career in education and believe in a comprehensive education focused on success for the 21st century.

Recently, I was appointed by Supervisor Hilda Solis as a commissioner to the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Commission serving in the capacity as Vice Chair. I served as the Vice Chair of CAIR PAC California. CAIR PAC CA is the largest Muslim PAC who support elected officials who further the cause of civil liberties for all marginalized communities. My involvement in civic duty continued as I served the City of Claremont as a commissioner for Traffic and Transportation and the Claremont Unified School District Advisory Committee on Surplus Property. I was member of Rotary and served on the board of directors of my local mosque. I am a member of the Pomona Valley Chapter, NAACP, and a member of the Latino/Latina Roundtable. Member of the Claremont Homeless Advocacy Program, Founding Member of the Inland Valley Interfaith Working Group for Middle East Peace.

I served four terms as a district delegate to the California Democratic Party (CDP) from the fighting 41st Assembly District. I served on the Affirmative Action Committee, Voter Services, and the Credentials Committee for the CDP. I was recognized as Democrat of the Year by the Los Angeles California Democratic Party (LACDP) for the 41AD in 2016. I served a term on the California Democratic Party Executive Board and fulfilled a term a member to the LACDP from 2014-2016. I was entrusted by my Regional Director Mark Ramos to be an ADEMs Convener for the 53rd Assembly District. I also had the opportunity to serve as an elected District Delegate to the Democratic Convention for Hillary Clinton in 2016. I was the Master of Ceremony for the Muslim Delegates Lunch at the DNC.

Currently, I am a Special Education Teacher for the San Bernardino City Unified School District and Ocean Lifeguard EMT for the City of Los Angeles. Working in education has been a fulfilling experience. My love of education, my faith and passion continues to inspire me to give back to my community. That is why I am seeking a seat on the Citrus College Board of Trustees.
